Deaf children go to pre-school, primary school at the school for the hearing impaired (EDA). After their admission to the DEF, they are unable to attend the “lycee” as there are no professors that can teach in sign language. EDA aims to send them to centers where they can follow trainings in specific professions. This teaching program is the same as for those that can hear. The teachers use the total form of communication (sign language, oral, pictures and mimes). The children follow the same (state) exams and under the same conditions as the children that can hear with the exception of dictations. In this case EDA teachers give the text by means of sign language.
